Juliana and Starriders top European Music Games shows

News dal sito DCE - Dom, 28/06/2015 - 15:00

This weekend saw two shows in the European Music Games series. Juliana topped the show in Leeuwarden - The Netherlands, while the Starriders won the contest in Rastede - Germany.

In Leeuwarden Juliana scored 67.35 points, the highest score so far in this year's European ranking. Jong-Holland came second with a score of 57.55. Showband Marum, again present at a DCN contest after several years of absence, ended in third place with 52.90. They were judged in exhibition and no scores were announced for them. The ice on the cake was Blue Devils International Corps from Concord - California. They did two performances during the day. Several drum corps classics like 'When a Man Loves a Woman', 'Rhapsody in Blue' and 'Channel One Suite' got the crowd on their feet.

The contest at the Rasteder Musiktage in Rastede - Germany was the first German show of the season. The Starriders started the season with a score of 64.00, followed, also winning the Effect and Visual captions. Spirit of 52 followed in second place (60.65), taking the Music caption home. Cadets make it count during Indianapolis opener

News dal sito DCE - Ven, 19/06/2015 - 00:45

The 2015 Drum Corps International Tour officially kicked off on Wednesday with six corps debuting their competitive productions at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The Cadets kicked off the season with a score of 69.850 resulting in a first-place finish.

Rainy weather made for a wet entrance into warm-ups, and the anticipated opening of the stadium roof was also called off. Regardless, inclement weather didn’t stop the intensity of the tour’s premiere performers, which included the Madison Scouts, Blue Stars, Carolina Crown, Cavaliers, Cadets and Bluecoats.

The Cadets’ 2015 production 'The Power of 10' proved to be a fast-paced and intense interpretation of Dmitri Shostakovich’s 'Symphony No. 10'. On the score sheets the Allentown corps took first in overall General Effect and Percussion. Just over a point and a half behind, the Bluecoats took second with a score of 68.250. Carolina Crown placed third (68.10) with its show 'Inferno', which illustrates themes from Dante’s literary classic of the same name. An opening flag routine by the color guard and daunting music quickly captivated the audience, earning the corps first place in the overall Visual and the Brass captions.

Members of the Cavaliers earned a fourth-place finish with a score of 63.10. Athleticism is showcased through quick movements highlighted by modern film scores in the corps’ 2015 program, 'Game On'. The Madison Scouts, who started the evening with their show, '78th and Madison', finished in fifth with a score of 61.50. The Blue Stars took sixth place, scoring 60.950. 'Side Show', which is set during the Great Depression, surprised audience members with illusions of eye-catching jugglers, sword-swallowers and clowns.

With the 2015 DCI Tour officially underway, these six corps will hit the road heading to their next competitions. Just 51 days from now they'll end up back at Lucas Oil Stadium for the DCI World Championships. Scores and recaps: www.dci.org.

Nexus withdraw from the 2015 drum corps season

News dal sito DCE - Gio, 21/05/2015 - 23:03

Nexus Drum and Bugle Corps will be withdrawing from all drum corps shows for the 2015 season. With a reduced membership and spiraling costs, it has been decided by the Nexus Performing Arts Management Committee, that committing to the summer circuits would seriously put the group at risk of closure.

"The corps have spent many years focusing on a competitive summer season and now feel it is time to take some time out to recruit and dedicate finances, time and effort, towards securing and developing the organisation", corps director John Dimmick explains. "These activities will include major local recruitment drives, focused on introducing younger people into the organisation and at the same time, developing new and exciting performance opportunities for its membership."

Although not a competitive unit on the drum corps field in 2015, Nexus will remain active and is working hard to secure its future. "The committee would like to thank all of its staff, instructors and members for their hard work in trying to make 2015 a reality", Dimmick continues. "We wish DCUK, DCE and all its member corps good luck for the 2015 season."

Drum corps vet breaks drum roll world record

News dal sito DCE - Mar, 19/05/2015 - 23:30

Jayson Brinkler, an eight time DCUK champion and snare drummer with the Dagenham Crusaders and Blue Eagles, broke the Guinness World Record on Saturday 16th May in Dartford - England to beat the world's longest individual drum roll of 12 hours and 3 seconds, to set a new record time of 12 hours, 5 minutes and 5 seconds.

The record, which raised money for the Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys, must be continuous without a single break, was first brought to Jayson's attention back in August of 2014, when a post on Facebook appeared on his timeline of someone attempting the drum roll record, but failed, and thought he could do better.

Jayson, a DCE and DCI alumnus, and sponsored by Tama Drums, thought it would be a fitting way to mark his 30th anniversary year in drum corps by bringing the record to the UK and the drum corps community for the first time - breaking it using a pair of drum sticks he has had for 30 years to mark his anniversary year.
